Selangor Ruler proclaims Klang a royal city

KLANG: Klang officially proclaimed a royal city by Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah on Monday (Feb 5).

The Ruler proclaimed that Klang had become a city effective Nov 23, 2023.

Klang's custodian agency will henceforth be known as Majlis Bandaraya Diraja Klang (MBDK).

Datin Paduka Noraini Roslan, who was MPK president, was also proclaimed as the royal city's first mayor.

In his Royal address, Sultan Sharafuddin reminded MBDK to be diligent and efficient in delivering its best.

"Practise discussing and and taking action immediately without waiting for a complaint to be made first," said Sultan Sharafuddin.

The Ruler also addressed Klang's flood woes and said it was hoped the mayor and city councillors would look at the problem seriously and take the necessary measures to overcome the issue.

"A neat and proper plan has to be implemented while taking into consideration Klang's location at the Sungai Kelang estuary.

"Opinions of experts must be obtained to ensure plans to overcome flooding can be carried out effectively," said Sultan Sharafuddin.

The Ruler also reiterated the recommendation that half of the city's councillors must be professionals who are experts in fields related to the development of a city.
